Web document is a similar concept to web page, except it satisfy the following broader (W3C) definition,
"... something that has a URI and can return representations (...) of the identified resource in response to HTTP requests"[1].
As a kind of document, is a more specific object than a "file at the web": a digital representation of a body of information designed with the capacity to communicate across the Web. A web document have some "expected properties" like document content and document structure, that is not expected in a arbitrary file.
The term "web document" have been used as a fuzzy term in many sources (see [2], [3], [4], [5], [6], and others), but in all of them we can adopt the W3C semantic. Recent research fields like "Web Document Retrieval" and "Web Document Analysis" (see p. ex. [7], [8], [9], [10], [11], [12]) restarted the interest and the correct use of the term.
